Areas of Interest: Parenting practices, particularly maternal discipline. Prevention and early parenting intervention with respect to oppositional and defiant toddlers. However, she is no longer admitting graduate students.
Current Research:
Dr. O'Leary is interested in clarifying which parenting and discipline strategies are effective and which are not; identifying environmental and parent characteristics that mitigate against parents' developing and/or implementing effective strategies; teaching at-risk parents to manage challenging child behaviors successfully before their children develop behavior problems; and developing and evaluating early interventions for parents whose toddlers are defiant, disobedient, and aggressive.
