Advice for applicants:

       In one word: Apply.

Dr. Susan O’Leary is an excellent advisor. She is supportive and encourages her students to constantly learn. Dr. O’Leary provides her advisees with exceptional guidance while they conduct research that they have conceptualized. I thoroughly enjoy having the opportunity to develop and work on my own research projects with the advice and help of Dr. O’Leary and my lab mates. If you are looking for an independent but supportive setting in which to study topics related to early childhood externalizing disorders, you should apply to work with Dr. O’Leary.

Stony Brook’s Psychology Department is an excellent place to be and to receive your training in clinical psychology. It is both challenging and rewarding. The program is well-rounded; providing students with research, clinical, academic, and teaching experiences.

Personal information:

I am happily married to a wonderful man who is a graduate student in political science at Binghamton University, which is 4.5 hours away. It isn’t easy, but my friends in the program here are very supportive and make the time between visits fly by. (The work load helps too.) For those of you who are facing a long-distance relationship, it is possible.

I grew up in western Massachusetts with my loving parents and sister. I called Harrisonburg, Virginia home for four years while I was at James Madison University for my undergraduate work and then I called Binghamton, NY home for two years. Now I am enjoying life on Long Island.
