Kori Brown, MSW

I graduated from CUNY Hunter College with my BA in Psychology in 2001 and then completed my MSW at SUNY Stony Brook in 2007. My research experience began in 1996 when I made calls to do surveys with Ohio residents while I briefly attended the University of Dayton. My experience expanded when I worked from 2004-2006 for a federal study that evaluated the Suffolk County Family Treatment Drug Court, as well as three other family treatment drug treatment courts . The study looked to see whether family treatment drug courts were more effective than traditional court settings in helping parents achieve sobriety. I conducted all of the assessments for the Suffolk County site as well as researched the parent’s CPS and criminal histories. I really enjoyed working with the parents and decided to pursue my MSW after working on the study for a year. I came to the FTRG in 2008 because I was interested in the prevention of family violence. I did an internship at the Suffolk County Riverhead jail when I was completing my MSW and I saw countless inmates who ended up in jail because of dysfunctional upbringings and family violence. I wanted to be a part of the prevention of family violence, and I feel honored to be able to get a chance to put prevention in action as a coach in the Couple Care Program.
