The Current Relationship Interview (CRI; Crowell & Owens, 1996)
The CRI was developed to assess attachment representations that evolve in the context of romantic relationships with current partners. The interview and scoring system parallel the Adult Attachment Interview. Coherence in describing the attachment elements of the relationship and its effects was used as an indicator of security.
Coherence: The ability to provide a unified, believable, collaborative, free-flowing account of attachment experiences with the partner, and with regard to other romantic relationships (including the parents’ marriage), and their influences on development. Agreement between coders, r= .64, p < .001.
Secure Base Scoring System, (SBSS; Crowell, Gao, Pan, O’Connor, & Waters, 1998)
The Secure Base Behavior Scoring System for adult partners was developed to explore the secure base phenomenon in adult attachment relationships. It was derived from Mary Ainsworth’s descriptions of secure base use of infants and secure base support of mothers in infant-mother dyads.
The SBSS rates secure base use and secure base support behaviors. Behaviors were scored from videotapes of 15-minute standard marital interaction tasks. Agreement between coders, secure base use, r = .73, p < .001, secure base support r = .80, p < .001.
